WE ARE SO CLOSE
The end of polio is within our grasp and organizations all over the world have pledged funds to ensure we realize our shared goal. Rotary has committed to raising $50 million a year for the next three years so we can finish the job. If we can reach the $50 million mark each year, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has pledged to match our contribution 2-to-1. That means a total contribution of $450 million!

At the RI convention in June, it was announced that there were only 8 cases of polio in the world this past year. Now there are only three countries in the world where the polio virus might circulate: Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria.

The new funding will go to such efforts as disease surveillance, responses to any outbreaks and the vaccination of more than 400 million children annually. A disease is considered eradicated fi there are no new cases in three years.
