It was another great Rotary meeting lead by President JoAnne! We had the pleasure of recognizing 5 veterans, inducting 7 new members, installing 1 new board member, promoting 3 members from the Red Dot program, approving a new name for the club, presenting 1 Paul Harris Fellow, and hearing our guest speaker talk about Human Trafficking in our area and what Rotary is doing about it.

We opened our meeting with a salute to the veterans in our group. Roxanne Snyder gave the Thought for the Day by paying tribute to all our veterans and thanking them for their service. The veterans in attendance included Michael Dockery, Jack Mintz, TR Bierst, Ed Trujillo, and JoAnne Tanner.
Our Membership Chair, Kwame Acquaah, did a marvelous job introducing us to our newest club members and officially inducting them into the club. Please welcome Doug Wageman, Dave Soto, Kelly Byam, Janet Meredith, Sara Thornros, Julia Shohbozian, Ed Kriz. Welcome!
PDG Al Frumkin installed Megan Ham as our new Club Administrator/Service Coordinator. If you are seeing emails coming from Megan, don't delete them. They have important information to share with you!
Congratulations to four of our newest members that were promoted out of the Red Dot program. Roxanne Snyder, Sue Barrett, Megan Ham and Kwame Acquaah (not pictured). The Red Dot program is for all members new to the club, not just Rotary. It's a great way for members to get acquainted with Passport and how we work. If you have completed your Red Dot, make sure to let Leigh-Ann Reinero know so we can celebrate your accomplishment and get you a new badge!
Past President Dwight and Carol had the honor of presenting Greg Dixon with his first Paul Harris Fellow. Congratulations Greg, and thank you for the donation!
Carol Langley gave us a Polio update and Dwight Chambers then passed out a $1.00 to every member in the club. All it takes is $10 to make a minimum donation. He asked us to add $9.00 to his $1.00 and make a donation. Carol then threw out the incentive. For every $100 donated by a member to the Foundation this month they will receive an extra 100 in points towards a Paul Harris Fellow. Let the contributions begin!!!!
Past President Mike discussed the board's decision to change the name of the club to something that better suits us. It was proposed that we name the club "Rotary Passport Club One", but if that is not accepted by RI then we name the club "Rotary Passport Club of Greater Sacramento". It was moved by Leigh-Ann Reinero and seconded to Molly Mackin and the motion passed unanimously.
Lastly, we had two speakers for the evening. The first was Brian Gladden who spoke about what District 5180 and RI are doing about Human Trafficking in Sacramento. He worked with leaders in the district and applied for a Reverse Global Grant to help educate kids and teachers as well as provide a safe place for escapees. He is working with local agencies to make sure we are being as effective as possible because Sacramento is one of the most targeted areas in the world. The target ages are 12 -14 and the Galleria Mall and Sunsplash are two places that kids are prayed upon. Please continue donating to the Rotary Foundation so we can help combat Human Trafficking like we have nearly eradicated Polio.
Our RYLA student, Marcus, gave us a short speech on his experience at camp this past summer. He described his fear of going to camp not knowing anyone but soon realized that he was not alone and he made life long friends. He talked about what it was like to open up to people he didn’t know and how accepting everyone was and that he came away having a better understanding of himself as well as people he will call his friends for life.
