PRESIDENTIAL THOUGHTS

Greetings Rotary Passport Club Member!

WINDING UP THE ROTARY YEAR – As the Rotary year winds down, the last few months are dedicated to preparing for the upcoming Rotary Year.  As the Charter members of a new Rotary Club, many of you most likely have questions about the District and Rotary International.  There are three upcoming events that I encourage you to attend.  You will feel more connected to Rotary and your fellow Rotarians.

  • DISTRICT 5180 TRAINING ASSEMBLY – April 2, 2016 from 8 am to 1:30 pm at Inderkum High School in Natomas.  At this FREE training assembly, you will have the opportunity to learn from the best of the best in District 5180 regarding all aspects of Rotary.  I highly encourage your attendance at this local training seminar.
  • DISTRICT 5180 CONFERENCE – May 19-22, 2016 in Berkeley, CA at the Berkeley DoubleTree Hotel and Conference Center.  The conference this year will be a celebration for the Rotary Passport Club, as our current District Governor, Glenn Fong will count our Club as one of two that he personally had a hand in bringing to life.  If you can swing it, you will have a great time.
  • ROTARY INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION – May 28 – June 1, 2016 in Seoul, Korea.  A Rotary International Convention is an overwhelming event, but even more so when it is held abroad.  The fellowship and sense of common purpose in the world is something that you have to experience to understand.

Although all of these events are extremely worthwhile (and worth the money), if you are interested in understanding Rotary better, or interested in learning about leadership opportunities within our Club, make sure that the Training Assembly is on your calendar.

CRAB FEED SEASON IN ROTARY – One of the most popular ways for Rotary Clubs to raise money in District 5180 is by having a Crab Feed.  Although this year may be challenging with much of the crab “crop” not “ready for prime time”, Clubs are still going to give it a go.  The Rotary Club of Fair Oaks will host their Annual Crab Feed on February 20, 2016.  You can find tickets by searching their respective websites.  You can also find opportunities to help them put on the event and serve by looking at our Upcoming Events Calendar.

SERVICE PROJECTS – See The Upcoming Events Calendar – Our Service Director, JoAnne Tanner, has tirelessly filled our Upcoming Events Calendar with every event she can lay her hands on.  If you are feeling that need to reach out and help a local Rotary club with an upcoming service project, check it out!

TURN IN – Service Reports for January (or the Year to Date) – Please continue to turn in these reports as soon as you have hours.  I am extremely proud of our club, having over a quarter of its members already at their 40 hours for the year.

That’s all for now.

Yours in Rotary,

President Mike
