Presidents Comments September
September is Literacy Month

Rotary's goal in highlighting Literacy is to strengthen the capacity of communities to support basic education and literacy, reduce gender disparity in education, and increase adult literacy. We support education for all children and literacy for children and adults.  This year we are looking at literacy for adults, especially those that have been afflicted by medical conditions which prohibit them from being able to read.

Janice Gage and Sheri Katz have remained a constant with the Kindred-Siena Transitional Care.  Every month they spend time talking with residents and, with Passport's continued financial support, have been able to lift their spirits by even the simplest of measurers.  This past year Janice & Sheri realized that some of the patients could really use some electronic equipment to listen to some of the audio books in the facility's library.  These are patients who would struggle being able to hold a book or can't see well enough to read it.

How can you help?  At our meeting on September 12th we will have a box for gift card donations (Visa or Walmart) and  gently used hard bound books.  We will also be using our Happy Dollars collected that night (along with any gift card donations) to help purchase the audio equipment.  Thank you for your help!
