Ramblings from your Passport President...

[President Dwight Chambers]With the upcoming District 5180 Foundation Dinner, I am reminded of all of the great things that Rotary and The Rotary Foundation accomplishes throughout the world.

Admittedly, I was in Rotary for over a year before I knew anything about it. At that point, I elected to participate by enrolling in Rotary Direct, whereby I give a little each month which accumulates rather quickly over time. It is automatic and you can set your giving to any level you wish.

One of the many benefits for contributing to the Foundation is the Paul Harris Fellowship, for which members are recognized when they have contributed $1,000. Granted, that seems like a lot of money (which it is) but, The Rotary Foundation is one of the highest rated charities in the world for what it does and is recognized for such (and, your contribution is tax deductible). This is something in which every member of our Club has the opportunity to participate.

The Paul Harris Fellow is awarded to any person, Rotarian or not, who has given $1,000 to the Rotary Foundation to further its global charitable efforts. The award was named after the founder of Rotary, Paul Harris. Though not the biggest recognition given by Rotary for donations, it is the most prevalent and recognized. In fact, when new Rotarians understand the significance of what their $1,000 contribution to The Rotary Foundation can accomplish, their desire to achieve that level of recognition is enhanced.

Additionally, there are Rotarians (like me) who take that extra step to commit $1,000 each year ($85 a month) to The Rotary Foundation. These individuals become Paul Harris Society members, earning a Paul Harris Fellow each year.

Whether you contribute a little or a lot, a big Thank You! to all that participate, for your faith and belief in the worldwide mission of Rotary to rid the world of Polio, as well as make the lives of those who struggle just to survive and raise their families a little better.

Also, be certain to make your reservations for the Foundation Dinner on Saturday, October 22nd. Space at the Passport Tables is still available but, the prices go up October 1st. It is going to be a blast with fantastic entertainment that you will not want to miss. If you're interested in attending, please contact Leigh-Ann Reinero (lreinero@yahoo.com).

Cheers,
Dwight

Stay Connected
Public Image Director David Kenitzer
Between work, family, and life in general, all of us are busy. So, how can we stay connected—especially as part of the Rotary Passport Club? Here are three easy ways to keep informed and stay active...

#1: Attend Meetings and Mixers—I know, I know. You joined the Passport club so you wouldn't have to go to so many meetings. But, there's something to be said about the tried-and-true method of meeting your fellow Passporters face-to-face. The good news is that we don't have that many (formal) meetings, and the social mixers are downright fun! In fact, the Mid-Week, Mid-Town Mixer at Zocalo on Wednesday, September 28 should be a great time. And the best part is that there's no need to RSVP or buy any tickets. Just show up and mingle.

#2: Volunteer—If you really want to get to know your fellow Rotarians, then volunteer with them. There's nothing quite like taking a professional out of their element to really test their mettle (One of my personal favorite memories was working with an Assistant District Attorney preparing sandwiches at a food booth). Watch for emails from our Service Director (Andrew Avalos) for volunteer opportunities throughout District 5180 (aka, the greater Sacramento region). If you can find something close to work or home, then you'll make contact with other Rotarians near you.

#3: Join the Conversation—Our club is on all of your favorite social networks, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and (even) Snapchat (although I'm still trying to figure it out). Follow us and keep informed about what's going on. If you recently volunteered or participated in an event for the Club, send your pictures to me so we can share with the rest of the club.

Upcoming Events

Rotary Passport 1st Annual Holiday Party

Thursday, December 15, 2016 from 5pm - 8pm
Monks Cellar in Roseville

240 Vernon Street, Roseville, CA 95678

Join us to celebrate the holidays!  Meet and mingle with old and new members...take photos with Santa...and in the spirit of Rotary, support our community!

Bring a $10 - $25 gift card (Target, Wal-Mart, etc) to be donated to  Lilliput Children's Services, a Northern California non-profit specializing in foster care and adoption services. As you all know, foster children have many needs, but at this time of the year, wouldn’t it be a beautiful gift if we could help them buy something special for themselves?

Service Hours

How can you complete 40 hours of service a year?  Check out our Events Calendar on the side of our bulletin and on our website for Rotary service projects and fundraisers.  Attend a Rotary club meeting, give blood in the name of Rotary Passport Club, or perform self-directed community service.   just report your time at:
