With the upcoming District 5180 Foundation Dinner, I am reminded of all of the great things that Rotary and The Rotary Foundation accomplishes throughout the world.

Admittedly, I was in Rotary for over a year before I knew anything about it. At that point, I elected to participate by enrolling in Rotary Direct, whereby I give a little each month which accumulates rather quickly over time. It is automatic and you can set your giving to any level you wish.

One of the many benefits for contributing to the Foundation is the Paul Harris Fellowship, for which members are recognized when they have contributed $1,000. Granted, that seems like a lot of money (which it is) but, The Rotary Foundation is one of the highest rated charities in the world for what it does and is recognized for such (and, your contribution is tax deductible). This is something in which every member of our Club has the opportunity to participate.

The Paul Harris Fellow is awarded to any person, Rotarian or not, who has given $1,000 to the Rotary Foundation to further its global charitable efforts. The award was named after the founder of Rotary, Paul Harris. Though not the biggest recognition given by Rotary for donations, it is the most prevalent and recognized. In fact, when new Rotarians understand the significance of what their $1,000 contribution to The Rotary Foundation can accomplish, their desire to achieve that level of recognition is enhanced.

Additionally, there are Rotarians (like me) who take that extra step to commit $1,000 each year ($85 a month) to The Rotary Foundation. These individuals become Paul Harris Society members, earning a Paul Harris Fellow each year.

Whether you contribute a little or a lot, a big Thank You! to all that participate, for your faith and belief in the worldwide mission of Rotary to rid the world of Polio, as well as make the lives of those who struggle just to survive and raise their families a little better.

Also, be certain to make your reservations for the Foundation Dinner on Saturday, October 22nd. Space at the Passport Tables is still available but, the prices go up October 1st.
