PRESIDENTIAL THOUGHTS

Greetings Rotary Passport Club Member!

THE FORCE AWAKENS – I had to get this newsletter out early this week with the release of Star Wars – The Force Awakens imminent.  So please read on before you get swept up in all the glorious hoopla!

NEW MEMBERS – Two More this Month – One of the goals of this organization was to bring back Rotarians who had drifted away from the organization for one reason or another.  It gives me great pleasure to welcome back two former Rotarians who have chosen membership in the Rotary Passport Club to continue their Rotary journey.

Jim Simmons – Retired Government Electrical Aircraft Engineer (formerly of the Rotary Club of South Sacramento – Sponsored by Ed Trujillo (Passport))

David Sobon – Owner of David Sobon Auctions (formerly of the Rotary Club of Sacramento – Sponsored by Dwight Chambers (Passport))

Welcome back, Gentlemen!  With these new members, our great new club is now 65 members strong and still growing!!!

PHILAT…ER… PHILA…ER…GOOD DEED DOERS – One of our own, Ms. Joanne Tanner, was given some great recognition in “The Nugget – A Publication of the Sacramento District Dental Society” for her work rallying dentists to provide dental care to Rotary Exchange Students…for free!!  Way to represent, Joanne!!

CRABS, CRABS, WHO’S GOT CRABS?!?!? – One of the most popular ways for Rotary Clubs to raise money in District 5180 is by having a Crab Feed.  Although this year may be challenging with much of the crab “crop” not “ready for prime time”, Clubs are still going to give it a go.  Two such Crab Feeds to have on your radar, if you love “all-you-can-eat” feasts of the oceanic crustaceans are the Rotary Club of Roseville Annual Garbolino Seafood Dinner (January 23, 2016) and the Rotary Club of Fair Oaks Annual Crab Feed (February 20, 2016).  You can find tickets by searching their respective websites.

SERVICE PROJECTS – See The Upcoming Events Calendar – Our Service Director, JoAnne Tanner, has tirelessly filled our December Upcoming Events Calendar with every event she can lay her hands on.  If you are feeling that need to reach out and help a local Rotary club with a service project this month, check it out!

TURN IN Service Reports for December (or the Year to Date) – In January, I will be posting a progress report on our member’s quest to “Save Lives” through their community service hours and donations.  The only way I can accurately do that is to have members submit their hours to me at michaelreinero@yahoo.com.  If you haven’t yet found your groove in service, don’t fret.  There are tons of opportunities coming your way this holiday season.  Check our Upcoming Events calendar often and keep your eyes open.  Many people need help this season and we are just the group to give it to them.

That’s all for now. Enjoy the rest of your week!

Yours in Rotary,

President Mike
