Get to know Your President Elect

Our PE, JoAnne Tanner is originally from Michigan – so don’t be surprised when you ask her where she is from and  she points to her left hand (if you are MI, you will understand).   During her youth, JoAnne volunteered for Easter Seals Society, as her father was in Rotary (Past President of Lincoln Park, MI and PH Fellow) Immediately after high school, JoAnne enlisted in the US Navy.  She served 5 years active duty, stationed at hospitals in Naples, Italy and Oakland, CA.  JoAnne has 2 sons, Garin 29 and Alan 26.  After completing her MBA, JoAnne started consulting with dentists across the country.   When she met Dwight, she recalls him saying that he is very busy with work and an organization that you probably aren’t familiar with, it’s called Rotary”  Well, JoAnne beamed and the rest as they say:… is history.

JoAnne is an example of the effect of social media.  With her busy schedule, traditional rotary was not an option.   A few years ago, JoAnne saw a post on Facebook regarding Passport Club formation and knew it was the club for her.  Join us at our next Quarterly Meeting to have an opportunity to talk with JoAnne personally and watch her be installed as the next President of Rotary Passport.

ROTARY 101

April 24th (Monday)
Ramada Inn (2600 Fulton Ave)
6:00 pm to 7:30 pm

What is so great about Rotary clubs, and why do 1.2 million people around the world call themselves Rotarians?

The answers to that question and more will be the focus of our Rotary orientation meeting on April 24th.
If you haven't submitted your RSVP, it's not too late.  Just go to our Evite
The evening will cover some basic Rotary facts and is designed for our new members as well as those of you who have been Rotarians for some time and have questions about the club.  All club members are invited to attend!

Join us for a fun evening of fellowship, information and pizza!

Explaining Rotary Foundation Contributions

By Carol Langley, Foundation Chair

Understanding why our contributions to the Rotary Foundation are so important, and how the dollars are distributed to worthy causes can be confusing both to new members and members who have been in Rotary for some time. That’s why I want to draw your attention to an article that is in our May edition of the Rotarian magazine. The issue won’t be out for a few weeks, but when you receive it, be sure to read an article titled, “Your Gift: from start to finish.”  The article does a wonderful job of explaining what happens to your contributions and why the Rotary Foundation is the best stewards for your money.

If any of you want to make a Foundation contribution toward your Paul Harris Fellow, you can do it online at www.rotary.org, or contact me and I will help.

April is Magazine Month

Rotary International assigns a designation to each month of the year, and April is the month that focuses on our magazine, The Rotarian.

As part of you RI membership, you should all be receiving The Rotarian. It is a bi-monthly publication that reminds us we are part of something larger than our home club. Each issue has articles about our world-wide humanitarian projects as well as information from various clubs sharing successes they have achieved. The magazine always has a letter from our RI president along with interviews of interesting people and short human interest stories.

Take time to read The Rotarian, because it will open the world of Rotary for you and make you proud of the many things we do as a global organization
