SOCIAL MIXER FOR MARCH

Do you feel lucky?  The luck of the Irish I mean….

Join us for our March Social Mixer at De Vere’s Irish Pub in Mid Town Sacramento on Thursday, March 23rd.  As in the past, our Social Mixers are pay as you go… and a lot of fun!  We will have a section of the Pub reserved from 5pm to 7pm (or as long as we can hang).  Put it on your calendar – 6 days after the official St. Patrick’s Day – but who’s counting!

De Vere’s Irish Pub

1521 L Street,  Sacramento, CA 95814

Member Spotlight

Trudy Harris

Meet one of our newest members of Passport, Trudy!  She's not just new to Passport, but new to Rotary.

"I have always loved the Rotary Club and volunteerism has always been an important part of my life.   Passport Rotary offers me the opportunity to be a Rotarian with my busy schedule and be part of the 'Rotary world'.  I am so happy with Passport, best decision ever!"

Trudy enjoys all the typical things in life...her three granddaughters (ages 2, 9 and 15), gardening, traveling, playing the mouth harp, and movies.  What really caught me off guard was her Bucket List.  It currently consists of 20 items, some of which includes, Driving a race car, walking with lions, and visiting the world largest Fry pan/ball of twine.  "I try to make it fun and exciting."  She is now adding hanging out in the shark cages off the Great Barrier Reef.  "My husband says I have to increase my life insurance before I go..."

Besides playing hard, Trudy works hard.  She is the co-founder of Team Giving.  "Team Giving is a dream of mine and my co-founder, Cynthia and we are so pleased with our first year.  We continue to grow and serve the community, helping those in need."

Team Giving, identifies key priorities in the community then purposefully seeks out volunteers with the desire and skills needed to address those needs. Engaging volunteers effectively helps organizations serve more people in the community and enables them to generate a larger community value. By connecting individuals and groups interested in volunteering with non-profits that need their time and talents Team Giving: 1) reduces the burden on non-profits, and 2) provides community members with an easy and meaningful way to give of their time and talents to improve their community through volunteerism. Since opening its doors in February of 2016, Team Giving has partnered with 38 non-profit organizations in Placer and Sacramento counties. It has coordinated over 555 volunteers which facilitated over 1850 volunteer hours to complete 88 projects.

Team Giving inspires compassion and promotes giving. It is a perfect resource for non-profit organizations by matching their needs with businesses, corporations, and service clubs to complete volunteer projects. If you are in need of service hours and are struggling to find a meaningful volunteer experience, visit Team Giving's website for more information and upcoming volunteer opportunities. www.teamgiving.org / 916-824-2118
